इसलिए आयुर्वेद सीखने के लिए संस्कृत भाषा का ज्ञान आवश्यक हो जाता है। पहले, BAMS के प्रथम वर्ष में 250 अंकों के लिए संस्कृत प्रमुख विषयों में से एक था, यानी 200 अंकों के लिए सिद्धांत (प्रत्येक 100 अंकों के 2 सिद्धांत पेपर) और 50 अंकों के लिए मौखिक परीक्षा।
